Almost every B2B company has sales people. It's a necessary part of business.
Sometimes they can be your ally, but most often they are your hidden adversary.
The adversarial aspect is built into the sales/customer relationship. No matter how much they value your business, they are often commission based and their goal is to maximize their income. Additionally, they likely have a sales manager pressuring them to increase sales and revenue. It's just business.
So while you are seeking the best price and quality, the sales person is seeking the highest profit on your purchases. That's clearly adversarial.
This is not to say sales people are truly against you. They know their products and the market, so they can be a valuable partner to you. There is value in that to some degree. Just remember that their objective is to maximize profits on your purchases.
