Ad Specialties range from anything like a simple pen, to flash drives,
awards, cooking sets, floor mats, and hundreds of thousands of other
No one company produces all these items. It's a network of vendors, each
supplying their own variety of products.
There is a preset pricing structure in place. That pricing is typically a 100%
mark up, or close to it.
For example, a product with an MSRP of $2 costs only $1 from the vendor.
This is true across almost all products and price points, but there is a sliding
scale of discounts based on quantities.
Ad specialty products come from a pool of vendors that belong to a trade
organization. Ad specialty sellers are also members, but are the sales force
for the wholesale providers. With that comes a mark up, which we eliminate.
Imagine a company selling pencils for $0.25 each, trying to employ a sales
force capable of selling enough pencils to stay in business. Can't happen.
However, by having sellers do the sales work, they increase the cost of the
pencils to $0.50 each, and provide a $0.25 per pencil profit to the seller.
That's how ad specialties work.
Wouldn't you rather not pay the sales commission?
